I can’t really describe when I first discovered Behemoth in reference to time but what I do remember distinctly is the feeling. That wonderful sensation when you listen to something for the first time and you get goosebumps. After years of delving into the world of Behemoth’s music I finally managed to catch their Blasfemia Amerika Tour 2016 appearance at The Observatory in Santa Ana California. After regretfully missing their past USA tours my excitement leading up to the date could not be quelled, especially knowing that “The Satanist” would be played in its entirety.

When Carach Angren announced that they would be joining Italian Metallers Fleshgod Apocalypse on a USA tour I knew this would be a treat! This was a sold out show and the band absolutely delivered. The ominous intro track “Once Upon a Time…” set the mood for what would be an energetic “hauntingly” epic set. The crowd gave them a warm welcome and once the first notes of “There’s No Place Like Home” echoed the audience was instantly hooked. Mingled with the harsh vocals of Seregor, the beautiful yet looming presence of Ardek’s orchestrations, Namtar’s pounding drums, and Diogo’s guitar the next songs flowed into motion. “The Sighting is a Portent of Doom”, and “Lingering in an Imprint Haunting” soon followed. By this time there was already a hefty amount of moshing going on but this was not enough.
What can we say about this show, Abbath!! The Norwegian Black Metal Icon formerly of Immortal has gone solo and has just released a new album through Season of Mist. This is sure to be a treat for metal fans and when you throw in High on Fire and Skeletonwitch into the mix you have quite the lineup. Even if you are not a fan of these bands I suggest you go and check it out! There will be something for everyone’s musical tastes.
