U.S. Death Metal outfit ‘ Faithxtractor’ return with their third full length and I don’t think it’s an understatement to say it’s an intense and brutal affair. They’ve continued to up their game across their subsequent releases in quite generous increments since 2008’s full length debut ‘Razing the World of Myth‘ which was more than adequately brutal, with 2013’s ‘The Great Shadow Infiltrator‘ and the 2015 EP ’Total Death Illumination’ being even more so, however ‘Proverbial Lambs to the Ultimate Slaughter’ makes those predecessors pale in comparison, much of which seems to come from a greater depth to the sound.
The quartet, consisting of brothers Marquis on guitars and Ash covering drums, guitars and vocals both from Horror Punks The Vladimirs along with Zdenka on bass and Cody on guitars from the Melodic Death Thrashers ‘Estuary‘ all bring noticeable influences from their other projects, including a strong thrashy element and d-beat merged in an quite brutally unexpected way for anyone not familiar with those previously mentioned past works but if you’ve followed their past offerings you probably saw this hellish Metal storm coming.
‘Proverbial Lambs to the Ultimate Slaughter’ is an all out, no messing release, crushing from the off-set, an intense and rapid pace bolstered by a d-beat, delivered predominantly with maniacal rapidity, with soaring guttural growls that are both superbly protracted and intonated and an abundance of largely off kilter shredding that punctures every track with an abundance that is both generous and reckless. There is a minor variance in pace across the release but it’s mostly a full tilt onslaught, so hold onto your hat!
To be honest ‘ Faithxtractor’ won me over with the first track ‘Death Deserving’ (‘Culling Rites’ being a mood setting opening sound-bite) with the beautifully sinister and hypnotic opening riffing which goes on the dominate the track in an addictive manner, everything after that is just a bonus.
