Can an album be both beautiful yet heart wrenchingly angry and fueled by emotion? Well the answer is yes, and that is what is special about the metal scene. Bands are able to create and break boundaries with their artistic mediums. Bréag Naofa which translates to “Holy Lie” combine elements of Post Black Metal, Sludge, Crust, and D Beat to grace the listener with unwavering force and a feeling of emptiness.
Touching on the fact that Bréag Naofa are able to channel such idealogies in the form of crushing tracks is saying something. This is the sort of band that one can get lost in and you can feel the agression. The opening track entitled The Morning Of portrays a picture of dawn painted within the notes of a mournful guitar melody. As the vocals enter one can envision the longing, and desperation pouring from the soul. This song is an emotional whirlwind sure to tug at the heartstrings.
Phosphorus is the conclusion to this EP and it presents the more D Beat aspect of the band. With the opening line of “There is No Fucking Hope” mixed with the fury of drums and overdriven guitar this is the ultimate cue to go tear things up, literally. This EP acts as a gateway, and if one finds themselves in need of a cathartic outlet this is for you. I hope to see these fine gentleman tour here in Los Angeles, because they have support here at The Metal Wanderlust.
